Georgia Contract Activity Improves Only Slightly in June

The value of contracts for future construction in the state of Georgia improved slightly in June, McGraw-Hill Construction reported. Overall, contracts for the month totaled approximately $2.33 billion, compared to last May's roughly $2.27 billion figure.

The nonbuilding construction category declined to total approximately $350.9 million for June, compared to last June's $443.5 million. Nonresidential contracts improved to an approximately $691.3 million total, compared to the $642.1 million reported a year ago. The value of residential contracts increased to total approximately $1.3 billion for the month, compared to last June's $1.2 billion figure.

So far in 2005, the value of Georgia contract activity is 6 percent ahead of the pace of the first six months of 2004, with about $12.7 billion in contracts reported. Residential, with approximately $7.8 billion in new contracts, is 5 percent ahead of the same period of 2004. The nonresidential category is now 4 percent ahead for the year-to-date, and totals nearly $3.1 billion. The nonbuilding category is 17 percent ahead of last year's pace, with roughly $1.7 billion in new contracts reported.
